Yew Tree – Week 5

We’ve had a lovely week out and about in Yew Tree class!

Our biggest news this week is all about our trip to Bude to explore the beach and compare the landscape to our rural setting of Chagford! We had a really great time trying to find the most disgusting things to write about in our ‘Disgusting Sandwich’ instructions for next week and then hiking up the ‘mountain’ a.k.a a hill to get some fantastic views of the coastline. Our most disgusting ideas were about ‘oozing, damp sand,’ ‘white, mucky bird poo’ (which unfortunately landed on one of our Year 2’s!), rotten crab guts and lots more too gross to mention on here! It was lovely to see the children not only representing the school so well but also really exploring the beach and the rock pools to think of new ways to use their descriptive skills in a different setting so well done Yew Tree!

In Maths, we have been tackling the tricky business of column method to subtract for Year 3 and improving our skills to count up the difference on a number line. Next week, we’re going to start using the inverse to find the solutions to missing number problems.

In Geography, we have been working hard to create brochures trying to convince tourists to visit Brazil. We’ve had a great time researching and putting all of our work together. In PE, we have finished our dance topics and will be moving onto cricket and strike/field games as we head towards the Summer term and in Art we will be beginning the final stages for our recycled art project.

Finally, a big thank you to our parent helpers for yesterday’s trip but also to remind you that tomorrow is open morning where we will be opening school early so you can come in and see what we’ve been up to!

Have a great Friday and weekend everyone!

All the best,

Joe Skinner and the Year 2/3 team.
