Yew Tree – Week 5

A snow free and very action packed week for Yew Tree class this week!

In Maths, we have been exploring fractions and finding halves, quarters and thirds of shapes and amounts. Lots of reasoning skills being pushed here so well done Yew Tree class!

In English, we have begun our new text on ‘Could an Octopus climb a skyscraper?’ which is all about hilarious scenarios and using facts to answer them. We have explored the text and next week will be looking at some new animals and using facts to generate questions and answers about them.

In Science this week, we have been understanding more about how our muscles work and how exercise is very important for humans and animals and in PE we have been using different types of rolls to move across an area.

In History, we have begun writing a letter home from the perspective of an Anglo-Saxon settler about how we are enjoying our new adventures in ‘Angle-Land’ and using facts to describe what it is like. Lots of great fact finding skills and teamwork again here which is always lovely to see.

Our most exciting news this week however was that on Tuesday Year 3 had a great time at a PE festival with Mrs Wiseman whilst Year 2 had a great time planting and creating bee houses with Chantel. On Wednesday we also had Hermione the tortoise (and her owner Erica) join us in class to discuss her needs and how they differ from humans as part of our topic/science work! The children loved every minute of their excursions and visits this week and we can’t wait to book some more exciting trip and visits in the future!

Finally, an apology is due that our assembly did not go ahead as planned last Thursday. Due to the snow we had to postpone it but fear not for we shall be re-scheduling for the first week back of half term! We hope to see you all there.

Have a great Friday and weekend everyone!

All the best,

Joe Skinner and the Year 2/3 team.
