Yew Tree – Week 1
Welcome back to a new year and a new term!
This week we have had a great time settling back into school and sharing our exciting Christmas news!
In English, we have been getting ready for the ChagWord competition by thinking about how stories flow and how we can create our own in the coming weeks. Lots of super ideas coming already so we can’t wait for the final pieces!
In Maths, we have begun our exploration of shape and had a lovely time exploring the shapes we could find in our new school! While we found lots of 3D shapes, we only spotted a few pentagons so have decided to speak with the builders over at Kier about this! Next week, we are looking forward to identifying shapes more by exploring their properties, how 2D shapes can combine to make 3D shapes and more.
In our afternoons this week we have been writing a recount about our Christmas adventures! It has been lovely to read about everyone’s news and how much they enjoyed the Christmas break.
Finally, we were very lucky to receive a visit from a ‘real author’ as the children continue to say! We were joined on Thursday by Claire Barker who is the fantastic author behind ‘Knitbone Pepper’ and her latest series, ‘Picklewitch and Jack.’ Claire not only gave us a brilliant show of how she creates her books but then spent the rest of the day in workshops helping the children with how to structure a story, create villains with a twist and even juggle! We would like to say a big thank you from Yew Tree class to Mr B, Claire Barker and the ChagWord organisers for making this happen!
If you would like to find out more about Claire you can do so through the link here: https://clairebarkerauthor.com/about-claire/
Next week we are looking forward to beginning our new topic of ‘animals’ and exploring how we as humans can fit into this category, how to be safe on the internet, why the Anglo-Saxons came to Britain and lots more!
As a final note to parents, I have attached the jigsaw and a copy of the letter which went home today should you wish to see more about what we are up to this term!
Have a great Friday and weekend everyone!
Joe Skinner and the Year 2/3 team.
