Dear Parents,

Governing Body Update

This Wednesday was the first meeting of the full North Tawton, South Tawton, and Chagford schools cluster Governing Body. Up until now an interim Governing group have been meeting until the full group could be formed. The agenda was full, with clarity on the options for the design of the schools leadership being the key item. The Governing Body is a mixture of experienced school governors and those who are new to it all. There is however a really good range of professional experience around the table and each school is well represented. We are as a priority making space on each school website for details of the Governing Body and their minutes to be published as usual – we’ll let you know when this is in place. In the meantime please find below a list of the names of the Governing Body. If you have any queries or questions for the Governing Body please contact the clerk to Governors via the South Tawton school office or s.wood@dartmoormat.org.uk.

Match News Chagford VS North Tawton Away on 27th April, reported by Craig Astill, Malena and Sophia

Yesterday, after a five month gap due to a succession of weather-related postponements, Chagford’s involvement with the inter-schools football league recommenced. Our football teams travelled to North Tawton for the fourth of our five scheduled fixtures. Both games were entertaining, with lots of chances. The A1’s went ahead with an absolute worldy of a goal from Charlie, a left-foot screamer virtually from the half-way line. North Tawton came back strongly finally equalising early on in  the second half. To be fair, North Tawton had the better chances, and would have gone ahead if it hadn’t been for Lee making a succession of excellent saves and blocks. It looked like we were going to hold on for a draw but Charlie had other ideas…in the last minute the ball came out to Charlie and he coolly arrowed the ball low to the keepers left just inside the post. Absolutely fantastic spirit shown from all the team particularly the defence- Joe M and River, who along with Lee played such a crucial role in this win. Without all their block tackles, interceptions and clearances the game could have been lost. Brilliant game to watch and even better with a last-minute winner…

The A2’s game had less chances but was equally exciting and hard-fought. Chagford went ahead with a great strike by Cass. North Tawton equalised before half-time. The second-half remained goalless…It was really pleasing to see the younger players – Alfie, Harly and Hugo more than holding their own against older opponents, and well done also to Daisy R playing her first game of school football. A great day, and worth waiting for (perhaps not for that long though!) Craig Astill

On Thursday the netballers played two matches against North Tawton. The A team played first and in the first minute of the game Sophia scored twice. Then the North Tawton took the ball and scored a goal. The ball was up and down the court but Chagford managed to score eight more times. Malena scored 4, Daisy 2, Maya 1. The final score was 9-1. Then the B team played and they scored six times. Clara 2, Jess 3 and Charlie M-C 1. They played really well as a team and the end result was 6-0 to the B team!

Well done to all our football and netball players.
