Dear Parents and Friends

Welcome back to school after your half term break. I do hope that you all had a restful time and are prepared for the run up to Christmas. It is always a really busy and excitable time for the children so plenty of rest will be so important for both their learning and to continue to fight the bugs. This week has been full of fantastic events and learning opportunities for the children. Wednesday was a particularly busy day with Apple Pressing organised by Chantal. All the children were able to participate and see how the apple juice is produced and since then Chantal has had the remaining juice pasteurised, so if you would like to purchase a bottle for £2.50, please come to the School Office. All the funds raised will go towards our outdoor learning provision for your children.

Wednesday evening saw the hall being used to its full capacity with the Halloween Party organised by our wonderful PTFA team. All the children thoroughly enjoyed the games, food and of course the balloons and spooky decorations, including some fantastic carved pumpkins. Thank you to the PTFA for running this event for the children and it was great to see such support for the school.

Leavers

It is with sadness that I am informing you that Sophie Hicks, our After School Leader and Meal Time Assistant will be leaving to start a new personal venture in Chagford. Sophie will leave a huge gap however we have advertised for these roles to be replaced and we anticipate that we will have staff in place to ensure that the provision remains continuous. We will announce those new members of staff as soon as we are able to confirm. Although both the staff and children will miss Sophie immensely; we do wish Sophie all the best with her new venture.

Mrs Thomas has made the difficult decision to retire at the end of this term. It is very hard to believe that Mrs Thomas is quite within her rights to retire as she puts us all to shame with her energy levels however she has come to this point and we wish her well for her relaxing retirement from January. We will be advertising for an excellent Year 1 teacher for two terms this week and will ensure that the quality of education for your children remains at the highest standard during this period of change. Mrs Thomas has asked that her leaving Chagford C E School is not marked at our Christmas Service as she does not feel comfortable with this level of attention however we will of course be acknowledging her significant contribution to the success of our school as a teaching team, so please do not think that we have overlooked her at the end of this term.

Parents Evenings will be during the week commencing12 November so please keep an eye out for dates from teachers and sign up with the School Office. Mr Billinghurst will be holding his parents evenings during the week commencing 19 November due to Grenville House residential taking a week out of the term.

The residential will be next week so please wish our Year 6 and a few Year 5 children a happy and successful adventurous experience. I am sure they will enjoy every aspect and hopefully get some sleep too during the week!

Attendance

May I remind all parents that should you need to take your child out of school at any point during term time you will need to complete a request for absence form (blue) which is in our school reception. Some children have been arriving at school 5 minutes late for the start of the day which impacts greatly on how well they settle into their learning. Please allow extra time, especially during these darker months for travelling to ensure that they are in school for the bell at 8:55am. Arriving late at school does get externally monitored and we have to report to the Education Welfare Officer on a termly basis those children who are consistently late or absent as part of our safeguarding responsibilities.
