Dear Parents and Friends

Firstly thank you for your support in making this first full week in our new building as smooth as possible. The children are really getting used to the new routines and their work is beginning to brighten up the walls and make it feel like our school. I am looking forward to welcoming the wider school community to have a look around tomorrow between 12 noon and 3pm as this has been a long awaited change to the Chagford townscape and I am sure everyone will be pleased with the outcome.

May I take this opportunity to remind you all that you are very welcome to attend our Collective Worships during the weekend and join the children in celebration each Friday at 3pm, when certificates will be presented to the children for all the hard work completed. We would welcome the opportunity to bring you all into the new school and help to embed our ethos and values which are so important to us here at Chagford C E Primary School. Monday and Wednesday are at 9:10am. Thursdays are held by classes at 3pm and Fridays are at 3pm.

I would like to particularly welcome our new families to our Foundation Stage Unit. The children have done incredibly well to begin their school life with such confidence and they are already very much part of the school, attending Collective Worship and having their school lunches in the hall – well done to you all. Please feel free to approach the FSU team or the school office if you have any questions regarding the school; we are always happy to help.

On Wednesday the staffing team had some refresher training for our new gymnastics equipment in the hall so that we are all well equipped to plan exciting and safe PE lessons for your children; much to the delight of the children who have been keen to climb the ropes and use the new wall bars since the start of term. We are incredibly lucky to have such a great space to use for our PE lessons and activities and hopefully the wider community will see the potential for events held in the town. We have a community use policy and are able to hire out our facilities at a very reasonable cost. Please ask at the school office for details.

May I please remind everyone that PE should be in school by now as children are having lessons. We do not have any spares in school anymore (as they just seem to disappear) so please ensure that your children are equipped with their own labelled kit. The correct uniform needs to be worn at all times; trainers are not permitted. Finally hair should be tied back and with a recent outbreak of nits again I would seriously recommend this preventative measure.

Some of the teachers have noticed that lume bands are starting to come into school AGAIN. Please do not let your children bring them to school as they can be hazardous to young children.

Thank you

Have a good weekend and hopefully I will see some of you tomorrow.

Liz Wiseman

Well not only is it a new school year but it’s also a new school so it seems the perfect opportunity to shake things up a bit and perhaps do things a little differently with regards to the PTFA and how to raise much needed funds. However, this can only be done if it is known what everyone want’s or doesn’t want from a PTFA, therefore please come and share your views on Sunday 23rd September at 8pm at the Ring of Bells.  This get together is to discuss idea’s and it doesn’t mean that you will suddenly find yourself sat on a committee! If you are unable to make it but want to share your thoughts, then in this first instance it is probably best to speak either to myself or Chloe Brooks-Warner and we can pass your views forward.

Look forward to seeing you,

Claire Northmore

SPECIAL MENTION – We would like to say a huge thank you to Emily and Fred, along with help from Lotte and Livvy who raised a whopping £40.00 over the summer holidays. They raised money in so many ways such as selling old toys and offering drinks on very hot days to painting nails for donations. Well done for such a fantastic fundraising enterprise .
