Dear Parents and Friends

Christmas madness has definitely come to Chagford this week with Christmas Show rehearsals, the Christmas lunch and todays Christmas Fair organised by the PTFA. The children have been working really hard to make the performance next Thursday as professional as possible, however plenty of practice of lines will need to be done over the weekend to ensure that the show runs smoothly please. Thank you to all those who have already helped to prepare costumes, props and backdrops for the show – we really could not have done this without you as well as continuing with the normal business of daily learning and preparations.

As you will all be aware the old school building has finally been removed of all asbestos and is gradually being removed by the demolition company. It has been good to begin to see how wonderful our school site is going to be for the children once the building has been removed. The additional playing area is going to be fantastic and to have such beautiful views opening up towards Castle Drogo as we speak, reminds us how lucky we are to be located in Chagford. The demotion company will be coming in on Monday 21st January to give an assembly for the children and explain further the process taking place before their eyes on a daily basis.

New teachers

As you are aware we will be saying a sad goodbye to Mrs Thomas at the end of this term and have been busy interviewing for a new Year 1 teacher. I am pleased to announce the successful appointment of Mr Smith who will start in January 19. Miss Rowe will be having two terms sabbatical from January and we have successfully recruited Mrs Burnell to replace her teaching commitment in Oak Class alongside Miss Philpott. I am sure both appointments will prove to be super additions to our school teaching team.

As you will see below we have two new after school clubs starting from the new year so please sign your child up if you are interested.

Next week will end with our Carol Service in the church at 2pm, please feel free to join us to welcome the festive season.

Liz Wiseman

Important information:

As part of the Dartmoor Multi Academy Trust all payments must be made in advance.

As you may be aware school budgets are increasingly tight and we have a finance policy of all payments to be paid in advance for clubs, trips, FSU nursery sessions and the school dinners we provide. We still have outstanding balances on accounts and cannot allow this level of debt to continue, so we are asking for parents to check their school gateway account and make payment of any outstanding monies or to come and talk to us if you are having trouble making payments.

Any unpaid accounts will receive a letter and an invoice and all provisions will be stopped until your account is cleared, this may mean you will have to provide a packed lunch or arrange alternative care after school/breakfast time or even cancel school trips if we cannot cover the full cost. Nursery sessions will be reduced to only funded session. Any outstanding debts will be referred to the Dartmoor Multi Academy finance team for debt recovery.

Please help us to maintain a high level of service by ensuring your account is not in arrears.

Many, many thanks to all for helping to make Santa’s Grotto at late night shopping a success.  It certainly got rather busy at times and Santa was quite worn out at the end having seen 100 children!  The idea of the evening is for the children to meet Santa but we also managed to make just over £200 for school funds as well.
This Friday (14th) is the Christmas Fayre in the new school hall.  Games, refreshments, raffle plus the school choir and band will be playing.  It will start from school finish time for an hour or so and any help at the end would be appreciated in tidying up.
