Caterpillars – Week 4
We’ve had a jam packed week in Caterpillars class this week!
Starting with our maths work, we have had lots of fun comparing numbers with < and > (Greater than and Less than) but all through our very own Pokemon battle system! The children loved comparing the ‘Battle Powers’ of their Pokemon in a Top Trumps style battle system by selecting different monsters with different CP powers and seeing who will reign supreme as a Pokemon Master! We’ve also explored measurements in cm and M as well as sequencing different number patterns and finding the ‘magic rule/hop’ each time.
In English, we have been writing our own story about Bernard the Robot losing his rusty, metal arm and mistaking it in a variety of different situations. The children have worked well with descriptive language and it’s been great to see them all using the classroom environment to find new and exciting words to use.
In Science, we welcomed Mr Bones into our lesson once more as we learnt the different names for the bones in our own bodies. It’s safe to say we all enjoyed finding out that fingers are scientifically called the ‘Phalanges’ and I’ve certainly enjoyed looking at all the different spelling attempts too!
We’ve had another great session with Mark where we have built up our skills of stopping and turning the ball as we dribble. Lots of great teamwork involved and super listening skills from all before our RE session where we ordered the 10 Commandments by what we value most.
In Computing we have been exploring our new tablet computers and thoroughly enjoyed having a go on the CBBC website games as a way to understand the basics of using the tablets and internet safely before Chantelle returned to give us an update on our caterpillars in school and give us an opportunity to share our caterpillar artwork.
Finally, can I say a big thank you to all the parent helpers we have had in so far! Our Year 3 children have just started on Accelerated Reader and it’s great to see there is a real buzz about reading and such a supportive atmosphere developing from all involved in reading. Thank you all!
Can I also please let parents know that our class assembly is coming up on the 12th Oct for Year 3 / 2 (Not next Thursday but the one after) as some parents were asking about when it would be for this term. We will be starting at 3pm so please come along on the Thursday 12th October if you can!
Tomorrow we are looking forward to a dance workshop in the morning before next week where we are continuing our work on ‘Our Bodies’ and starting a new topic in Maths based on addition and subtraction.
Have a great Friday and weekend everyone!
Joe Skinner and the Year 2/3 team.
