Caterpillars – Week 4

What a brilliant week in Caterpillars class!

This week we’ve had an excellent time getting ready for our class assembly which was a wonderful performance of drama, story-telling and a few laughs as well. A huge well done to all of Caterpillars class and a big thank you to all of the parents who came along to watch. It has been lovely to see the children so inspired by Baba Manjhi’s story and trying to make a positive change for their friends at school!

In English this week, we have been writing our own instructions on how to look after an animal of our choice. We have used a huge collection of word types and grammatical skills to make our instructions very detailed, descriptive and funny! Once we have finished all of our pictures, we are then going to be ‘publishing’ our guides on how to look after each creature in ‘Caterpillars Guide to Babysitting.’ Look out for it on book shelves near you/in the classroom soon!

In Maths, we have been exploring doubling and halving through multiplication and division and thinking about how we could teach these two operations to an alien! It’s been great to see both year groups mixing across our trio based work and producing some excellent posters on ‘How to Multiply and Divide’ to help any alien visitors!

Finally, I would like to say a huge well done to all of Caterpillars class for some excellent reading this week! Lots of children have been very eager to read and share with myself and Mr Dray what their stories are about. It is wonderful that there is a real ‘buzz’ about reading and excitement about pointing out the different word types we find. Who would have thought spotting a conjunction could be so fun!?

I would also like to mention that cast lists for our Christmas play have been sent home and scripts as well for those who have speaking parts to practice with.

Please can costumes be brought in by Friday 1st December in a carrier bag with your child’s name labelled on bag/written on side. Thank you in advance!

Next week we are looking forward to finding out whether or not our predicitions in Science were correct, a visit from Chantelle for our Gardening workshop, some Winter/Christmas poetry and lots more!

Have a great Friday and weekend everyone!

Best wishes,

Joe Skinner and the Year 2/3 team.
