Caterpillars – Week 2
We’ve had a busy week in Caterpillars class and had lots of fun along the way.
This week in maths we have been really exploring different shapes and their properties. We started the week by looking at regular and irregular shapes before creating our own irregular shapes out of straws and blutack and discussing how we could classify them by their properties. We’ve also created our own quarter turn/right angle resources from paper plates to help us with identifying right angle turns, quarter turns and half turns. Lots of wonderful logic and reasoning taking place in maths this week so well done Caterpillars!
In English, we have been getting stuck in with Traction Man and exploring the text through some grammar scavenger hunts and wonderful drama pieces. It has been great to see the children getting hands on with the text and really exploring how the author has used certain grammatical devices.
In PHSE, we have been thinking carefully about what teamwork is and how we can make sure we are telling the truth and being kind with the truth when learning with others. Lots of healthy debate here and it has been great to see the children being respectful, kind and understanding towards one another, especially during a very funny team based hula hoop activity! Once again, well done Caterpillars!
In PE and music, we have introduced our topic of Hawaii through learning to play the Ukuleles and through some Hawaiian dancing and exploring how we could move in time to a piece of Hawaiian music. We have also been discussing E-Safety in Computing and in Science, we have been learning about rocks and the different types we can find for Year 3 and the 7 processes of life for Year 2.
Next week we are looking forward to creating our own Traction Man adventures around school, learning more about angles and shapes, furthering our understanding of E-Safety and learning more about Hawaii!
Have a great weekend everyone!
