Caterpillars – Week 2
We’ve had a great week in Caterpillars class this week!
In our science work we have created our own investigations into what plants need to survive in different conditions. We’ve decided we would like to answer questions such as: ‘Can a plant survive in a fridge?’ and ‘Can a plant survive without its leaves?’ We’re now looking forward to finding out whether our predictions were correct or not next week!
In maths, we have been finishing our work on addition and subtraction through our book focus on ‘The Great Pet Sale.’ We have been buying different pets in our pet sale and using column addition/subtraction and number lines to find the difference or change given. It’s been great to see the children using their skills in a practical and realistic context. Next week we are going to be exploring multiplicative reasoning and thinking about how we can approach multiplication and division in both Year 2 and Year 3.
In English, we have been designing our own commands and instructions on how to look after a baby dragon. We’ve had lots of fun thinking about the needs of our baby dragon, warnings our babysitter might need and commands on how to best look after a ferocious little dragon! Next week we will be making our own set of instructions for a character/creature of our choice.
In Geography, we have been using the tablets to research different facts and information about the 7 continents of the world. We particularly enjoyed exploring the globe through interactive websites and finding out interesting facts such as one about a man driving into the only tree in a 250 mile radius whilst exploring the Sahara Desert!
In PE, we have been trying some drama mixed with dance this week and have been visualising playing with a football using only our bodies to express how the ball is moving! Very interesting experiment for both teacher and child alike as we thought carefully about what the audience would need to see to believe our performances!
Finally, in DT we have been designing our own biscuits ready for baking them over the next few weeks! We’ve had some interesting designs to say the least so fingers crossed we can do them justice (wish us luck!)
Can I also say a big thank you to all of the Caterpillar’s parents who were able to attend Parent’s evening this week. It was great to share with you all of the great things that your child has achieved so far in Year 2/3.
Next week we are looking forward to exploring multiplication and division, creating our own set of commands for looking after a creature, finding out the results of our science experiments and much more!
Have a great weekend everyone!
Joe Skinner and the Year 2/3 team.
