Caterpillars – Week 1
Welcome back to the final term of this academic year!
We have hit the ground running as always in Caterpillars class and had an excellent week.
In Maths, we have been practicing our skills in telling the time once more to the nearest 5 minutes and nearest minute. Next week, we are going to be exploring statistics, measurements and lots more!
In English, we have begun our new sequence on instructional writing through Marvin and Milo comics. Each comic is a step by step guide on how to create different experiments you can try at home. We have been exploring the ‘bossy’ imperative verbs, how conjunctions add more detail and how adverbs can tell us more about how to complete each command. Next week we will be having a go at creating our own stress ball toys and writing instructions on how we did this!
If anyone at home would like to have a go at the Marvin and Milo experiments the link is here: http://www.physics.org/marvinandmilo.asp
In PE on Monday, we had a go at a variety of different activities in preparation for Sports Day and on Tuesday we have had the pleasure of Andy returning to teach both Year 2 and Year 3 some cricket skills. Andy will be visiting for the next three weeks to help us improve our batting, fielding and catching skills.
On Wednesday morning, Year 3 had a brilliant time taking part in their first swimming lesson at Chagford pool and Year 2 enjoyed some fun PE games in Grasshoppers. The children walked down to the pool very sensibly and were polite towards staff and supportive of one another throughout our session. Keep up the great effort Caterpillars! Can I please say a big thank you as well to all parents who made sure everything was ready in bags beforehand as well.
In Geography this term, we are going to be looking at how to use grid references and the 8-point compass. We began this week by creating our own mini maps and following instructions on where to put different symbols. The children worked well in pairs to check their directions before placing each symbol so well done Caterpillars.
Next week we have our Class Assembly coming up on Thursday 14th June at 3:00pm so we hope to see lots of those at home coming along to support our final assembly for this academic year!
Finally, please see attached the parent letter which was sent home Monday with some information about this term and our Jigsaw with an overview of what we will be exploring this term.
You will also have noticed we have a school trip coming up to We the Curious in Bristol on Tuesday 10th July. We are very excited to be taking the children here to further explore the scientific ideas we’ve looked at this term so please could parents return consent and donations via Gateway as soon as possible. Thank you in advance!
Today we are looking forward to finishing our work on time, exploring Marvin and Milo comics further and getting props ready for our class assembly.
Have a great Friday and weekend everyone!
Joe Skinner and the Year 2/3 team.
