Caterpillars – Week 1
What a great week back we have had!
We’ve certainly hit the ground running in Caterpillar Class with lots of exciting maths about multiplying and dividing numbers by 10 and 100! Both Year 2 and 3 respectively have really excelled in using place value to multiply and divide and thoroughly enjoyed the process as well! I look forward to what exciting maths challenges we can have a go at in the following weeks to come!
In English, we have combined our history topic of the Ancient Egyptians with our English topic on non-fiction writing and newspapers. This week we have been exploring who the Ancient Egyptians were and how their lifestyles differed to ours. For example, the children couldn’t believe that most Egyptian children had jobs by the age of 12! We’ve also been learning more about how newspapers are written and identifying the ‘5 W’s’ of Who, What, When, Where and Why in each article. Next week we are going to be thinking about writing our own newspaper articles and using what we have learnt to report back what we find out!
In Science, our Year 2’s have begun exploring animals as humans in greater detail and will be linking this focus to our space topic and what we may need as humans to survive in space! Year 3 have begun their new topic on Light and had lots of fun in the sun learning about reflective materials and how light travels. We’ve also built a boat for our new froglets to enjoy some time out of the water so please enjoy the photos we captured below! Alongside this we also had a visit from Chantelle for our Gardening session where we have been looking at how the sunshine gives us energy and potting plants ready to grow throughout the Summer term!
In Computing, we have been having a go at animation and exploring how many photos combined together and played in succession can make pictures appear to move. Next week we will be expanding on our ideas further with new software and ideas! In PE, we have begun our athletics focus with some relay races and ‘Follow the Leader’ based activities. We had a great time in the sunshine on Monday but sadly had to return to the hall Tuesday due to the rain. Fingers crossed for more sunshine next week!
Finally, on Thursday next week (Thursday 26th April) will be our Class Assembly. We would love it if those at home could join us to celebrate what we have been looking at so far in class.
I have also attached our new class jigsaw so you can see what exciting things we have coming up this term.
Have a great Friday and weekend everyone!
Joe Skinner and the Year 2/3 team.
