A short week, but a busy week nonetheless in Beech Class…

After our extra long bank holiday weekend, we continued our learning on multiplication in numeracy. This week, we concentrated on our 2s. We drew pictures to help us visualise what multiplication of 2 looks like, and then matched number sentences to these images. On Friday, we put this altogether to show our understanding…

In Literacy, we finished our own written version of the story ‘Traction Man’ using our own toys for inspiration. Next week, we will use our editing skills to make sure we have all the correct punctuation, including capital letters, finger spaces, full stops, commas and exclamation marks…

In history, we were lucky to have both Fred’s gran and George’s mum come in to share with us their toys from when they were young. We used this invaluable experience to help us then order some pictures of dolls. We started by putting them in order from oldest to newest. We then compared them by looking at what they were made from as well as the clothes they were wearing. We used this discussion to have another go at ordering the pictures until we got it right…

In PE, we carried on our work of running in athletics and built this up to running over obstacles. We ran over hurdles, building our speed as we became more confident with our technique. We also jumped from hoop to hoop using one foot. Then we used standing jumps to jump along a floor ladder. Finally, we had races in our houses. Yellow, Blue and Green house all won a race each, earning themselves a housepoint.

Have a fantastic weekend, and see you next Monday.

Mr Smith, Miss Carter and the Year 1 team.
