Our final week has come and gone and what a busy week…

On Monday, we combined PE with numeracy to do some educise (education + exercise). We had great fun throwing a ball into a box in order to get our subtraction number sentences. We then wrote the number sentence on our whiteboards and worked them out using a number line. We then had a go at using this to help us solve subtraction word problems. Some of us even had a go at writing our own…

In Science/Geography, we learnt about the rainforest. We learnt about the 4 layers of the Amazon Rainforest and had a go at naming them in the correct order. We used actions to help us. Take a look by clicking the link below…

On Tuesday, we were lucky to have Andy come in to teach us some ball/fielding skills for cricket…

We had great fun learning how to field a cricket ball as quick as possible. We also enjoyed throwing and catching the cricket ball. We cannot wait for Andy to come back after half term for our 2nd session.

On Wednesday, we wrote an innovated version of ‘Look Inside Space’. We used all we that we have learnt about plants to help us write an explanation text, including a question and answer….

In the afternoon, we got the apparatus out for PE. We are building our confidence at travelling across apparatus at different heights. We loved sliding down the fireman’s pole and climbing down the rope…

On Thursday, we used all that we have learnt about mixing paint to create our own A3 landscape painting of Bude or Brazil. Miss Carter took us in groups to help us do this. These  will go on display in the health centre, with a winner being picked from each class.

We were also lucky to have Oliver’s dad come in to talk to us about Brazil. He brought with him a delicious Brazilian sweet called Beijino. This means ‘little kiss’ and is made with condensed milk and coconut. We also learnt some Brazilian words, including ‘obrigado’, which means Thank You. Here is a video of us saying thank you for our sweets…

Finally this week, we had the Easter Service. In Beech class, our fantastic readers explained what happened on Palm Sunday, whilst the rest of the class made their own palm leaves to wave in front of our very own Jesus and his donkey.

That’s all for Spring Term. Many thanks for all your continued support at home with reading etc. Have a fantastic and relaxing Easter holiday and I look forward to seeing you all again after.

Best Wishes

Mr Smith, Miss Carter and the Year 1 Team.

Note: There are 2 jumpers and a cardigan in our jumper box in class which have no name in (or the name has faded so I cannot work it out!). No child has claimed them as their own so if your child is missing a jumper, please come and have a look. Also, Jack’s blue fleece has gone missing. Again, there are two in class with no names on so if your child has accidentally picked up Jack’s, please return and check the others.
