Creative Arts (Art, Music, Dance and Drama)
The Creative Arts at Chagford C. of E. Primary School include art, music, dance, drama and creative writing. They play an essential role in the development of the whole child and allow scope for personal expression, enjoyment, creative action, imagination and emotional response. Each art form is a means of communication or language where children learn to “read” different ideas about the world.
“The arts are like your backbone. You may be able to survive without your backbone but what quality of life would you have?’ – Sir Simon Rattle
“It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge.” – Albert Einstein
We believe that children can acquire knowledge, skills and understanding of the Arts through:
- Direct teaching with inspirational resources
- Planned visits to local theatres, museums and art galleries
- Groups and individuals coming into school to share their expertise
- Appreciating others’ work by displaying, performing and celebrating the arts throughout the school.
All children regardless of gender, race, culture, background and ability have an entitlement to arts education at an appropriate and challenging level. To ensure that children experience high standards of success, creative development is taught with regards to children’s abilities to ensure progress.
The School has an active School Orchestra and choir, who play and sing at a number of our celebrations, and Chagford Christmas Shopping night, so there are plenty of opportunties to put the learning into practice! We are hoping to launch a ‘Rock School’ this year also so watch this space!
Last year we took over 90 pupils to the very popular Devon Music Mix event and other events are planned for this year also.
Please see the Information Tab > Peripatetic Music Lessons for information about private lessons at school.
